I always get excited about those projects where I really get to pull up my sleeves and design something that not only do I hope (and pray) my client will love but something that I also love creating. This one was just such a project. Here’s the thing: I absolutely love elephants both in design and in real life, so I was extra thrilled when I was asked to create place cards, table numbers and straw flags with an elephant theme.
Since all of my place cards, etc. are custom designed to fit each person’s occasion, you may wonder what kind of information I base each design on. Well, here is a little glimpse into what I had to go on for this particular project. I was told that the baby shower’s theme was “Oh Baby” with little elephants and that the colors for the theme were baby blue and bright yellow. The lovely mom-to-be also wanted to make sure that the elephants would be “trunks up” because it means good luck. Too cute!
Next, I asked her if it was okay if I used patterned paper, and she gave me the o.k., so I decided on baby blue argyle and baby blue and white stripped paper along with the yellow. I considered designing an elephant myself, but I found an adorable elephant die cut by Martha Stewart, which was the perfect embellishment to the drink cards and table numbers. For the straw flags (all 150 of them!), her only request was that “Oh Baby” be written in calligraphy on each one; and, of course, I always have to add a little sparkle with a few embellishment gems here there. I’m told the cake for this baby shower was designed after what I designed here. I can’t wait to see it! There will be a part 2 to this post coming soon, so you can all see this fun baby shower. Yay! Have a wonderful day, gang!
