Satan Cast Out
Scholars love to debate the problem of evil in the world. They love to put their stamp or “opinion” on why evil must exist and so on and so forth, but I’ve found that there are only a few who will truly point you towards actual Scripture to show you what God himself has to say about it.
Then, there are those who would reject God who like to ask the question, “How can a supposedly loving God create evil?”
To which I would respond with…quite simply, He didn’t create evil.
Further, the answer to the question of evil is far less complicated than the devil would lead you to believe. Manipulation is the name of the game when it comes to the enemy, and if he can convince you that God’s truth is too difficult or too complicated, then it is, therefore, not worth bothering with.
And yet, the Bible tells us this…
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3 (KJV)
However, one of the endless deceptions of the devil is to deceive you into believing that there is no answer to “the problem of evil” or deceive you into believing that it did, in fact, originate from God. This is the devil’s attempt to keep you from coming to salvation and repentance in the one and only place it can be found.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 (KJV)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
As this great preacher likes to say in response to the question of evil, “Why are you trying to dirty up God?”
In other words, why are you trying to make God sinful? Do you not know that He is PERFECT?
As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. Psalm 18:30 (KJV)
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48 (KJV)
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
My greatest prayer and hope is to share something with you all today that will really help you wrap your mind around the real cause of evil, and I couldn’t explain it better than Clarence Larkin has in his book The Spirit World. I own this book, but the good news is that you can find it in a full pdf format HERE.
A little background on Clarence Larkin…Larkin was an American Baptist pastor, Bible teacher, and writer, Clarence Larkin was born October 28, 1850, in Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He was converted to Christ at the age of 19 and then felt called to the Gospel ministry… (To continue on with his full bio, head over HERE.)
Larkin’s Bible studies, especially his book Dispensational Truth and The Book of Revelation have helped me in understanding the Bible more than any other tool I’ve ever come across. If you’ve read my other articles, it goes without saying that the King James Bible is my final authority in all teachings.
As an architect prior to becoming a preacher, Larkin used his skill of drawing to create incredible charts of the Bible, which he is best known for, as well as his incredible gift of writing to guide students of the Bible through some of the most difficult concepts of Scripture. The Lord truly used Larkin’s willingness to serve Him and the gifts of drawing and writing to bless believers across the world still to this day.
That being said, I feel that it is necessary to share Larkin’s WARNING in the Forward of his book The Spirit World:
In this day of the revival of “Spiritism,” when so many, through the loss of loved ones in the “Great World War,” are longing to communicate with the dead, and are resorting to forbidden means to that end; a day in which science is trying to discover whether there is another world than this, and whether men live after death, and if so can they communicate with the living, it seems timely that a book should be written to show what the Holy Scriptures have revealed of the “World of Spirits.” The Bible has much to say about the “Spirit World,” and if we will carefully search its pages we shall know all there is to be known in this life of the “World to Come.” For if men will not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded though one rose or came back from the dead. Luke 16:31. This book covers all phases of the “Spirit World.” It treats of the “Powers of Good and Evil,” of “‘the Underworld,” of “Satan,” the “Fallen Angels,” “Demonism,” the “Intermediate State,” and of Heaven and Hell, as well as the “Resurrection of the Body,” and the “Judgments” of the Righteous and Wicked. The numerous charts illuminate the descriptive matter, and beautiful pictures show the ministry of angels and other heavenly beings. The prayer of the Author is that the Holy Spirit will use the book to free those who are entrapped in the net of “Spiritism,” and cause the curious and sorrowing to turn to the “Word of God” for help, and the answer to their questioning. THE AUTHOR “Sunnyside” March, 1921.
Okay, now, I will be sharing with you Larkin’s insight on the problem of evil from The Spirit World in Chapter 3 on Satan. Again, I urge you to read the entire Chapter, which gives ALL of the supporting Scripture to the following thoughts:
THE PROBLEM OF EVIL
God did not create “Evil.” “A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” Mat 7:15-18. If God did not create “Evil,” then how did it originate? It will not do to say?”An enemy hath done this,” for then the question will arise, “Who made the enemy”? If Satan did not originate evil in his own heart, then it must have been implanted in his heart from some outside source. This would require the co-existence of “Good” and “Evil” in the Universe, and rob God of His Sovereignty. Some hold that “Evil” is necessary to properly develop and perfect free moral agents. If this be true, then “Evil” must have had an eternal beginning and been in the purpose of God, for all of God’s creatures were created “free moral agents.” If God had made them otherwise they would have been mere machines with no will of their own.
While it is true that overcoming evil perfects character, it is not true that evil is necessary for such perfection. To be a “free moral agent” implies that one has the power of “choice.” When God created the angels, and all the glorious beings that He originally created, there was no sin or “Evil” in the Universe. But as free moral agents they had the power of choice, not between “Good” and “Evil,” but between following the “Will of God,” or their “Own Will.” As long as Satan chose the “Will of God” there was no “Evil” in the Universe, but the moment he chose to follow his own Will, then he fell, and by persuading others to follow him he introduced “Evil” into the Universe.
The root of sin is SELFISHNESS, and when Satan said?”I will ascend into Heaven (from the original earth over which he was ruling), I will exalt MY THRONE above the ‘Stars of God’ (other ruling powers) … I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH” (Isa 14:12-14), then Satan was guilty of TREASON, and started a REBELLION AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT OF GOD that will never cease until he and all his followers are cast into the “Lake of Fire” to spend Eternity. There is sooooooo much more spiritual meat within these passages of Scripture, that I urge you to do your own digging and really study the Word of God.
You see, friends, we don’t need to make excuses for the Holy God of the universe on any given topic – least of all, the question of evil. Rather, we need to rise up and defend the faith He has given to us!
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Jude 1:3 (KJV)
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:10-13 (KJV)
The good news in all of this is that you can be assured that the God of Heaven and Earth is a GOOD and HOLY and PERFECT and LOVING God! If you are reading this article today, you still have time to choose to follow Him!
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (KJV)
He is NOT the author of evil, beloved. He is the Author and Finisher of our FAITH!
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)
Praise God for that amazing promise!
Editor’s Note: As with all teachings you encounter in matters of spiritual things, including the posts you read here, I urge you with all diligence to test everything you read under the light and authority of God’s Holy Word…the King James Bible. Open your Bible and follow along, and see for yourself what God’s Word has to say. While I strive to be thoughtful, careful and ultimately prayerful about what I share on this site, I am still human, so should there ever be anything that isn’t in line with the Bible (which I pray doesn’t happen), then God’s Word is always right, and I am wrong. God’s Word is the final authority in all things.
